A Psychiatrist in Cumming, GA, Now Open on Buford Hwy

Our Cumming office at 935 Buford Hwy, Suite 212 is open and accepting new patients. For Cumming and Forsyth County residents, that means a board-certified psychiatrist in Cumming, GA, closer to home, without a drive down GA-400 for every visit. You can book at our Cumming or Suwanee office, and telehealth is available for evaluations and follow-up appointments. The office sits on the GA-400 corridor, convenient for patients across Forsyth County.

Most people who contact us are not looking for a first try at treatment. They have already worked with a primary care doctor or another provider and want someone who will look harder at why things haven’t improved. That is where our practice focuses.

Psychiatric Care in Cumming Beyond TMS and Spravato

TMS and Spravato are only part of what we do. As your psychiatrist in Cumming, GA, our team also provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, ongoing medication management, and GeneSight genetic testing to help guide medication choices. We treat adults with depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, bipolar depression, adult ADHD, and sleep disorders, and Dr. Singareddy’s board certification in sleep medicine means sleep problems are evaluated as part of the full picture, not as an afterthought.

For many patients, the right answer is not TMS or Spravato at all, but a better-matched medication, a corrected diagnosis, or treatment for an underlying sleep problem. Our job is to find that answer first and to recommend advanced treatments only when they make sense for you.

How to Choose a Psychiatrist in Cumming, GA

When comparing options for a Cumming GA psychiatrist, look at four things: board certification, experience with your specific condition, whether the practice takes your insurance, and how easy it is to get seen. Our clinicians are board certified, Dr. Singareddy is affiliated with the Emory Healthcare Network, and we accept most major commercial plans and Medicare. We also offer Saturday morning appointments and handle prior authorization for you. It is also worth asking any practice how quickly they adjust treatment if something isn’t working.

TMS Therapy for Cumming & Forsyth County Patients

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment that uses focused magnetic pulses to stimulate underactive areas of the brain responsible for mood regulation. It is primarily used for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) that has not fully responded to antidepressant medications, known as treatment-resistant depression, Anxious Depression and for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Unlike antidepressants, TMS has no systemic side effects. There is no sedation, no weight gain, no sexual dysfunction, and no cognitive impairment. Each session takes about 20 minutes, patients remain fully awake, and can drive themselves home immediately after. No anesthesia. No hospitalization. No downtime.

At Empower Psychiatry, we use the BrainsWay Deep TMS system, the most advanced TMS technology available, FDA-cleared for both depression and OCD. Its patented H-Coil stimulates deeper and broader brain regions than standard TMS coils, resulting in higher response and remission rates. Patients from Cumming, Gainesville, Ball Ground, Canton, and Dawsonville make the short drive to our Suwanee clinic for this level of care.

Spravato (Esketamine) Treatment Serving the Cumming Area

Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray that represents a genuine breakthrough for patients with treatment-resistant depression and major depression with active suicidal ideation. Unlike traditional antidepressants that can take 4–6 weeks to show effects, Spravato works on the brain’s glutamate system and can produce meaningful relief within hours to days.

Dr. Singareddy is a REMS-certified psychiatrist, a mandatory FDA certification required to prescribe and administer Spravato. Spravato sessions are conducted in-office at our Suwanee clinic with mandatory monitoring after each dose. The treatment is covered by Medicare and most major commercial insurance plans for qualifying diagnoses. For Cumming-area patients, the drive to Suwanee is a small investment for a treatment that may provide relief after years of frustration.

Frequently Asked Questions — TMS & Spravato Near Cumming, GA

TMS THERAPY QUESTIONS

Our new Cumming clinic at 935 Buford Hwy, Cumming, GA 30041 is now open. You can schedule now by calling (770) 615-0226 or booking online.

Yes. Most major commercial insurance plans — including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, and Medicare — cover TMS therapy for Major Depressive Disorder. Our team at Empower Psychiatry handles the entire insurance verification and pre-authorization process on your behalf before treatment begins, so there are no unexpected costs.

A standard TMS treatment course consists of 36 sessions, typically delivered 5 days a week over 6–7 weeks. Each session takes about 20 minutes, and you can drive yourself to and from appointments. Many patients schedule sessions before work, during a lunch break, or on their way home.

Standard TMS uses a figure-8 coil that only stimulates the surface layer of the prefrontal cortex. BrainsWay Deep TMS uses a patented H-Coil helmet design that stimulates both deeper and broader brain regions simultaneously, areas more directly involved in mood regulation that standard TMS cannot adequately reach. Clinical studies show that Deep TMS achieves higher response and remission rates than standard TMS. It is also the only TMS system FDA-cleared for depression, anxious depression AND OCD, whereas most standard TMS systems are cleared for depression only. Empower Psychiatry is proud to offer this technology to patients throughout the Cumming and Forsyth County area.

Yes. The BrainsWay Deep TMS system is FDA-cleared for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in addition to Major Depressive Disorder. The OCD protocol uses a different coil placement that specifically targets the anterior cingulate cortex and medial prefrontal cortex areas that are hyperactive in OCD. Treatment is paired with a brief symptom-provocation protocol before each session to maximize effectiveness. Many patients with OCD who have not responded adequately to medications like SSRIs or to therapy (including ERP) experience meaningful symptom reduction with Deep TMS.

TMS therapy is extremely well tolerated. The most common side effect is mild scalp discomfort or a light headache during or shortly after the first few sessions, this typically diminishes as treatment continues and your scalp adapts. Unlike antidepressant medications, TMS does not cause weight gain, sexual dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, drowsiness, or cognitive impairment. There is no anesthesia, and patients are fully alert during and after sessions. A rare but serious risk is seizure, which is discussed in full during your initial consultation. The overall safety profile of TMS is significantly better than long-term antidepressant use for most patients.

SPRAVATO (ESKETAMINE) QUESTIONS

Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression and major depression with active suicidal ideation. It is derived from ketamine and works on the brain’s glutamate system, specifically the NMDA receptor, which is an entirely different mechanism from traditional antidepressants that target serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine. Spravato can work for patients whose depression hasn’t responded to multiple antidepressants, and it often produces relief within hours to days rather than the 4–6 weeks required by traditional medications. It is not a cure, but for many patients it represents a meaningful breakthrough after years of inadequate treatment.

Yes. Spravato is covered by Medicare and most major commercial insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Humana for patients who meet the criteria for treatment-resistant depression (meaning two or more antidepressants have been tried without adequate effect) or for major depression with active suicidal ideation. Our team handles the prior authorization process. For patients who do not meet insurance criteria, a self-pay option is available, contact our office for current pricing. The REMS program also has a cost-support mechanism through the manufacturer for eligible patients.

Spravato sessions are conducted in our clinic, currently at our Suwanee location, with the Cumming location opening soon. You self-administer the nasal spray under the supervision of our clinical staff. After each dose, you are monitored in our office for a mandatory 2-hour observation period to assess blood pressure, alertness, and any dissociative effects before you are cleared to leave. Because of the monitoring requirement, you will need someone to drive you home after each session. Sessions are typically scheduled twice a week for the first 4 weeks (induction phase), then weekly for weeks 5–8 (consolidation phase), then every 1–2 weeks for maintenance. Most patients find a comfortable routine quickly.

Spravato is FDA-approved for two indications: (1) Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) defined as Major Depressive Disorder in adults who have not responded adequately to at least two different antidepressant treatments in the current depressive episode. (2) Major Depressive Disorder with Acute Suicidal Ideation or Behavior (MDSI). To be evaluated for Spravato at Empower Psychiatry, you should be 18 or older, have a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder, and have a documented history of inadequate response to antidepressants. We will conduct a thorough evaluation to determine eligibility, including reviewing your medication history and ruling out contraindications.

Yes, and for patients with severe or complex treatment-resistant depression, Dr. Singareddy may recommend a combined TMS + Spravato approach. The two treatments work through entirely different mechanisms, TMS uses magnetic stimulation to reset neural circuits while Spravato works on the glutamate system to rapidly promote neuroplasticity. In clinical practice, combining both treatments has shown promise for patients who have not achieved adequate response from either treatment alone. Whether a combined approach is right for you depends on your history, severity, and overall clinical picture and this is evaluated thoroughly during your consultation.

Spravato and ketamine infusions are related but different. Spravato uses esketamine, one of two mirror-image molecules of ketamine, delivered as a nasal spray, and is the only FDA-approved ketamine-based treatment for depression. Ketamine infusions use racemic ketamine (the full molecule) delivered intravenously and are used off-label for depression. The key advantages of Spravato over ketamine infusions are that it is FDA-approved with a defined treatment protocol, covered by most insurance, and administered in a more comfortable setting. Empower Psychiatry offers Spravato as our ketamine-adjacent treatment because of its established safety data, insurance coverage, and regulatory oversight. Dr. Singareddy can discuss whether Spravato is appropriate for your situation during an evaluation.

That said, we work collaboratively with primary care physicians, therapists, and other referring providers throughout the Cumming and Forsyth County area and we always communicate with your existing treatment team to ensure coordinated care.

Prior TMS or Spravato treatment that didn’t produce the expected results doesn’t necessarily mean these treatments won’t work for you. At Empower Psychiatry, Dr. Singareddy will review the details of your prior treatment including the device used, the protocol, the number of sessions, and your response and determine whether a different approach, a different TMS target, a combined TMS + Spravato strategy, or an alternative interventional treatment might produce better outcomes. We specialize in exactly these complex cases.
