Exposure to Daylight Offers a Wide Range of Health Benefits

1. Early morning daylight is especially effective for sleep regulation because it helps synchronize the internal body clock. This natural reset of the circadian rhythm improves sleep quality and reduces insomnia. Studies have shown that morning light exposure can significantly advance sleep onset, making it easier to fall asleep at night.

2. Daylight exposure also positively impacts mood. Exposure to natural light, especially outdoors, has been associated with reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety. More exposure to daylight and less exposure to artificial light seems to reduce the risk of depression.

3. Spending at least two hours outside in daylight has also been linked to a lower risk of developing myopia (nearsightedness), particularly in children. This effect is likely due to a combination of improved accommodation—the eye’s ability to focus on distant objects in natural light—and the benefits of exposure to bright outdoor light itself. Research suggests that children who spend more time outdoors have a reduced risk of myopia progression compared to those who stay indoors more frequently.
