The Deadly Truth About Kratom

Kratom is a plant-based supplement that some people use for pain relief, anxiety, mood, or to feel a “legal high.” But kratom is not as safe as many believe. Kratom can cause serious health problems and even death. Its active ingredients act like opioids, which means it can lead to addiction and withdrawal, just like prescription painkillers.

When people stop using kratom after regular use, they may experience withdrawal symptoms. These can include muscle aches, joint pain, trouble sleeping, runny nose, sweating, diarrhea, chills, tremors, and loss of appetite. People also report feeling anxious, restless, irritable, sad, and unable to concentrate. In newborns whose mothers used kratom, withdrawal can cause vomiting, irritability, and feeding problems.

Kratom use has been linked to liver damage, seizures, heart problems, confusion, hallucinations, and coma. Some people have died from kratom, especially when mixed with other drugs or alcohol. Even using kratom alone can lead to hospitalization and life-threatening complications.

Kratom is not a safe alternative to prescription medications. If you or someone you know is struggling with kratom use, seek help from a healthcare professional.
